Lower Primary
P1 to P3: the three years in which children learn to read, write and count with confidence, and learn how to be part of a school.
The lower primary curriculum
We follow Uganda's thematic curriculum for P1 to P3, with a relentless focus on literacy and numeracy.
Reading every day
Phonics in P1 and P2, guided reading groups from P1, and a weekly library lesson. By the end of P3 every child reads independently.
Number that sticks
Daily mathematics with concrete materials first, so place value, addition and subtraction are understood, not memorised.
Themes, not just subjects
Science, social studies and life skills are taught through termly themes: our home, our school, our community, our environment.
Beyond the syllabus
Computing from P1, swimming from P1, music and movement every week, and Luganda alongside English.
Class teachers
One adult who knows everything about your child.
Each lower primary class has its own class teacher and a teaching assistant, and classes stay small. The class teacher is your first point of contact and sends home a short note every week.
